Here at Action For Humanity (AFH), we are looking for an International Finance Officer to join us at our Manchester Office. You will join us on a full-time basis and in return you will receive a competitive annual salary of £28,223.

As an International Finance Officer at AFH, you will provide administrative support with overseeing project budgets, tracking expenditures, and reviewing financial reports. The role also involves supporting the team with a range of finance admin tasks which will ensure accurate financial reporting, the preparation of timely reports for donors and managers, and the monitoring of project cost recovery. Additionally, the role supports audits and compliance by assisting in project closures, and responding to audit requests. 

 

Key Responsibilities:  

A. Planning and budgeting:  

  • Provides support in establishing and monitoring the Project budgets.
  • Provide support with validating project reports and balances.
  • Reporting the available balance for project utilisation for programmes
  • Carrying forward balances from previous financial year, translating income from previous fund structures to new structures
  • Updating the total fund committed to projects after receiving allocating data from programmes 

 

B. Project implementation: 

  • Supporting Programmes and international finance in Managing and tracking of budgets to ensure there is no overspend low burn rate, verifies budget availability for any commitment,
  • Process and Monitor project payments and financial reports.
  • Reviewing Project Approval, ensuring community funds are allocated appropriately for AFH projects, grant agreements are signed and funds invoices for donor projects and other checks
  • Reviewing funding agreements with country offices / implementing partners, verifying key details such as payment schedules
  • Assist in reviewing project financial reporting: providing feedback on report, adding any UK costs, verifying supporting documents & exchange rates
  • Reviewing and signing payment requests from programmes, checking key details such as fund transferred to date, beneficiary bank etc. this is done for each specific payment of each project
  • Preparing payment authorisation for each specific payment for each project, capturing key financial details such as exchange rates into relevant foreign currencies, project balances before and after payments
  • Preparing Fund Transfer Requests (FTR) to share with donors
  • Maintaining a live record of all project balances, both active and closed, in both donor currency and GBP
  • Recording income, expenditures, indirect costs charged and other financials 

 

C. Reporting: 

  • Coordinates with programme staff as appropriate to ensure that financial information are complete and accurate, provide regular financial analyses to Project Managers,
  • Support Programmes and International finance to prepares and submits financial reports to donors and Project Managers in a timely manner.
  • Monitors individual project cost recovery, provides monthly reports on cost recovery and advises on areas that need addressing.
  • Preparation of timesheets for UK staff cross-charged to international projects as part of indirect cost recovery 

 

D. Audit and compliance  

  • Works with Programmes team and field finance team to ensure proper closure of projects, final reports submitted, all income collected, donor requirements are followed.
  • Support Head of International Finance, in respond to audit and Programme requests for documentation and other financial data requests. Also supports Office internal and external audits,
  • In coordination with programmes team, participates to field visits to review the financial management of the project, train field staff as required,
  • Performs other appropriate duties upon request of the Head of International Finance 

  

What we are looking for in our International Finance Officer 

Education 

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field. 

Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) ow working towards one is highly desirable. 

 

Experience 

Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience of working in charity finance, with some proven accounting experience.  

Knowledge of international humanitarian work or similar sectors. 

Experience with financial management software (e.g., Sage50, QuickBooks). 

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.

Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures. 

Competency in MS Office, database, and accounting software.

Languages 

Strong written and spoken English (Essential) 

Strong written and spoken Arabic, Urdu, or French (Desirable)
