We are seeking a dedicated Programmes Coordinator to join our team in Manchester. In this role, you will oversee the effective and efficient delivery of AFH’s projects and programmes. You will be responsible for project implementation, financial oversight, compliance, and interdepartmental coordination to ensure high-quality, impactful programming. Your role will also include supporting fundraising, donor reporting, and contract renewals, while liaising with funding authorities and commissioning bodies.

The Programmes Coordinator will work closely with the Programmes Manager and other internal teams, including Finance, Senior Management, Donor Care, Marketing, Communications & Advocacy, and AFH’s country offices. You will play a crucial role in programme design and implementation, from inception to completion, ensuring interdepartmental cohesion for seasonal campaigns and facilitating field visits for fundraisers and donors.

Responsibilities

Project Implementation & Delivery

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of assigned projects in alignment with donor requirements, budgets, and AFH policies.
  • Ensure the programmatic and financial delivery of key contracts and grants, maintaining compliance with funding agreements.
  • Monitor project progress through field visits, communication with project staff, budget tracking, and donor reporting.
  • Work closely with finance, logistics, and procurement teams to ensure smooth project operations.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, challenges, and delays to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of new programmes and funding applications.

Financial & Grant Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with all funding contracts, grants, and agreements, adhering to donor regulations.
  • Work with the Finance Department to facilitate timely financial transfers to field programmes and track budget balances.
  • Support the International Finance team in processing grant claims and payments.
  • Maintain and improve grant filing systems, ensuring accurate documentation and internal audits.
  • Ensure all financial and programme reports for donors and internal stakeholders are completed accurately and on time.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL)

  • Implement Project Cycle Management (PCM) in accordance with AFH’s Programmes Handbook, enhancing best practices.
  • Conduct field visits to assess project performance, ensure accountability, and measure impact.
  • Collaborate with the MEAL team to strengthen monitoring frameworks, impact assessments, and lesson-learning mechanisms.
  • Track and report on programme progress, supporting adaptive management to improve delivery.

Safeguarding, Policies & Compliance

  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection policies are embedded within all grants and contracts.
  • Monitor adherence to internal policies and donor procedures, flagging any compliance breaches.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation in accordance with donor and AFH policies.
  • Assist in refining policies, procedures, and systems for programme implementation.

Stakeholder Engagement & Institutional Partnerships

  • Maintain strong relationships with project funders and strategic partners.
  • Represent Action for Humanity in donor meetings, consortiums, and coordination forums.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities, working closely with the Institutional Funding Unit when required.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure project visibility and fundraising alignment.
  • Provide field updates and support donor care and fundraising teams with appeals.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Ensure strong coordination between Fundraising, Finance, Donor Care, Marketing, and Communications & Advocacy.
  • Support the Orphan and Family Sponsorship Programme, ensuring robust monitoring, evaluation, and accountability mechanisms.
  • Facilitate field visits for fundraisers, donors, and external stakeholders, ensuring security and compliance measures are followed.
  • Lead cross-team planning efforts to ensure organisational synergy, particularly during seasonal campaigns (e.g., Ramadan, winter relief).
  • Assist with new office registrations where required, supporting expansion efforts.
  • Support programme design, strategy development, and organisational growth in collaboration with senior leadership.

Administration

  • Maintain accurate records and compliance across multiple trackers and databases.
  • Monitor and report on programme performance, providing regular updates to senior management.
  • Provide operational and logistical support for programme activities, ensuring efficiency and coordination.

Other

  • Represent AFH at external functions, including networking events and conferences.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure programme alignment with AFH’s organisational goals.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by senior management.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Postgraduate degree in International Development or a related field.
  • Project Management qualification (e.g., PMDPro) is desirable.

Experience

  • Experience working in the charity sector in a similar role.
  • Proven track record in managing contracts, financial donor reporting, and budget management.
  • Experience working with remote teams and cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Strong understanding of donor regulations, contract management, and financial compliance.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Experience working in fragile or conflict-affected settings (desirable).
  • Previous experience managing or supporting orphan or family sponsorship programmes (desirable).

Languages

  • Fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Work Environment

  • 85% office-based.
  • 15% travel for field visits, events, or external engagements.
