A VOICE FROM GAZA
One of our staff members, Saed, who resides in Gaza, shared the following account with us:
"I witnessed five wars in Gaza since 2008. The previous wars are nothing compared to this one. There is no safe place in Gaza. Even the ambulances were targeted. Hospitals are being targeted.
About 400,000 out of 2.2 million Gazans fled their homes and took refuge in schools. Even some schools were targeted. No electricity for 6 days. No water for most Gazans. The telecommunication infrastructure has collapsed."
THE RISK OF FAMINE
UN experts warn that Gaza has already crossed two of the three thresholds for famine: plummeting food consumption and acute malnutrition. The only reason famine has not been officially declared is that hunger-related deaths cannot be fully recorded in the chaos of war.
“There is mounting evidence that widespread starvation, malnutrition and disease are driving a rise in hunger-related deaths,” UN World Food Programme Director of Emergencies.
“This is not a warning; this is a call to action. This is unlike anything we have seen in this century.”

"My kids and I sleep in one room so if my house is targeted we die together. The shelling is about 200m away from my house. I saw bodies, injuries, horrified kids and women. Gaza is now a place of death and horror."

GAZA UPDATE JULY 2025
How is AFH sourcing and delivering food in Gaza despite the challenges?
With food production devastated — 86% of cropland damaged and imports severely restricted — Gaza now relies heavily on humanitarian aid. AFH works with trusted local partners and vendors to source what’s available on the local market, ensuring meals can reach those who need them most. We review market conditions every month to adapt our plans, respond to price changes, and keep costs as low as possible.
Currently, skyrocketing food and packaging prices mean we’re focusing on rice-based meals in August — these are nutritious, cost-effective, and easier to package individually. In previous months, we provided more complex dishes such as stews, but current conditions make this challenging. Our priority is to keep hot meals flowing, even under the toughest circumstances.
Can AFH send money directly into Gaza?
Getting funds into Gaza is very challenging. Banks and ATMs are out of service, cash is limited, and private brokers charge high fees. Because of these conditions, AFH operates entirely through our registered office in the West Bank. Funds from the UK are transferred to our West Bank accounts, and all payments to Gaza suppliers or partners are made by bank transfer. Our Gaza staff receive salaries into their personal accounts and withdraw cash through authorised brokers. We do not make cash payments on the ground — this helps keep our operations secure and accountable.
How many hot meals can AFH provide each day?
In the first half of 2025, AFH distributed over 55,000 hot, ready-to-eat meal packs — each serving 3–4 people — to displaced families. During Ramadan, we reached more than 75,000 people with food parcels and communal meals. We also supported 6,954 people with fresh vegetable baskets, a rare but vital addition to diets under current conditions. Each meal is more than just nourishment, it’s a reminder that the world has not forgotten them.
How many people are AFH projects currently serving in Gaza?
From January to June 2025, AFH’s food and relief projects have reached tens of thousands of people with hot meals, fresh produce, and essential supplies. Full operational updates for this period are available in our latest report.
Are the HOPE Camps still operating, and what support do they provide?
Our HOPE Camps in Deir al-Balah continue to support displaced families, although some have been partially evacuated due to safety concerns or damage:
-
Camp 3: 17 families remain; the site is isolated and less secure.
-
Camp 4: Only one family remains; most tents were removed or damaged. Repairs are ongoing so families can return.
-
Camp 5: 37 families have returned; tents were removed during evacuation, but the site remains intact and guarded, although still in a red-zone area.
AFH teams are working to repair damage, restore services, and provide safe shelter wherever possible.
How is AFH providing medical aid?
With your support, Action For Humanity helped Al-Shifa hospital, the main hospital in Gaza, to recover after another military offensive in May and at the start of October 2023.
According to reports from Gaza’s Ministry of Health, over 45% of essential drug items were reported as being at zero stock, along with 19% of medical disposables. The ongoing closure of Gaza, frequent military attacks, and the influx of injuries have led to the deterioration of available health services in the area and a decline in their quality.
With your donations, we will contribute to bridging the gaps in zero-stock medical supplies through the procurement of medical disposables that the Ministry of Health urgently needs to enable the continuity of providing essential health services for the vulnerable population in Gaza.
