UPDATE

Over the recent decades, Pakistan continues to face increasingly frequent and intense floods due to climate change, that has severely impacted the lives, livelihoods and infrastructure in the country. After the devastating floods of 2010 and 2022, Pakistan is once again at the forefront of another climate induced catastrophe. The ongoing floods due to heavy rainfalls and land-slides in various regions of Pakistan including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir has damaged over 5000 houses and cut off the linkages between key roads.

Authorities remain on high alert in ten districts as upstream releases and near-full reservoirs increase the risk of riverine flooding along the Sutlej, Chenab and Ravi. Around 2 million people have been affected.

Northern districts continue to bear the brunt. In Buner and Shangla alone, 479 deaths have been reported, with over 4,000 houses damaged and 674 schools affected. Landslides and destroyed bridges are restricting access, leaving urgent needs in debris clearance, WASH, health and livelihoods.

As the situation deteriorates, humanitarian needs are rising at an alarming pace. Families urgently require hot meals, WASH–Dignity Kits, food packs, shelter, and non-food items to sustain themselves in these difficult times.
