We are seeking a dedicated Programmes Officer to join our team in Manchester. In this role, you will support the effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of AFH’s projects. You will ensure compliance with donor requirements, facilitate financial tracking, contribute to project development, and strengthen coordination between internal teams and field offices. Your role will be crucial in ensuring high-quality humanitarian interventions, supporting overseas programme delivery, and collaborating with various teams across the organisation.
Responsibilities
Project Implementation & Delivery
- Support the planning, execution, and monitoring of assigned projects in alignment with donor requirements, budgets, and AFH policies.
- Ensure timely programmatic and financial delivery of key contracts and grants, maintaining compliance with funding agreements.
- Monitor project progress through field visits, communication with project staff, budget tracking, and donor reporting.
- Work closely with finance, logistics, and procurement teams to facilitate smooth project operations.
- Assist in developing new programmes and projects by contributing to proposal writing and funding applications.
Financial & Grant Compliance
- Ensure AFH adheres to all funding contracts, grants, and agreements, maintaining full compliance with donor regulations.
- Work with the Finance Department to ensure timely financial transfers to field programmes and track budget balances.
- Support the International Finance team in processing grant claims and payments.
- Maintain records for all grants, conducting internal audits to ensure compliance and implementing corrective measures as needed.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of all financial and programme reports for donors and internal stakeholders.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL)
- Implement Project Cycle Management (PCM) in accordance with AFH’s Programmes Handbook, strengthening best practices.
- Conduct field visits to assess project performance, ensure accountability, and enhance impact measurement.
- Regularly track programme progress and support adaptive management to improve project delivery.
Safeguarding, Policies & Compliance
- Ensure safeguarding and child protection policies are embedded within all grants and contracts.
- Monitor adherence to internal policies and donor procedures, flagging any compliance breaches.
- Maintain accurate project documentation in accordance with donor and AFH policies.
- Assist in refining policies, procedures, and systems for programme implementation.
Stakeholder Engagement & Institutional Partnerships
- Work with the Marketing and Communications team to align project visibility with fundraising efforts.
- Support donor engagement by providing field updates and assisting with fundraising appeals.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
- Assist with field visits for fundraisers, donors, and external stakeholders, ensuring security and compliance measures.
- Support programme strategy development and contribute to AFH’s organisational growth.
- Undertake administrative and other tasks as required.
Administration
- Maintain accurate records and compliance across multiple trackers and databases.
- Monitor and report on programme performance, providing regular updates to senior management.
- Provide operational and logistical support for programme activities, ensuring efficiency and coordination.
Other
- Represent AFH at external functions, including networking events and conferences.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure programme alignment with AFH’s organisational goals.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned by senior management.
Job Requirements
Education
- Degree in international development or a related field (Postgraduate degree desirable).
Experience
- Experience working in the charity sector in a similar role.
- Proven track record of programme and financial donor reporting.
- Budget management experience.
- Experience working with remote teams.
- Understanding of donor regulations, contract management, and financial compliance.
- Experience working in fragile or conflict-affected settings (desirable).
- Previous experience managing or supporting orphan or family sponsorship programmes (desirable).

Work Environment
- 95% office-based.
- 5% travel for field visits, events, or external engagements.
