Beekeeping Restoration in Syria

BEEKEEPING RESTORATION IN SYRIA

Reviving a tradition, restoring livelihoods, and helping crisis-affected beekeepers in Deir ez-Zor rebuild their future.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In the heart of Northeast Syria’s Deir ez-Zor governorate, years of conflict and economic decline have devastated one of the region’s oldest rural trades — beekeeping. Abandoned apiaries, extreme weather, and the loss of vital knowledge have left once-thriving honey producers struggling to survive.

Action for Humanity’s Restoration of Beekeeping project is breathing life back into this vital livelihood. Over four months, we’re equipping 40 crisis-affected beekeepers with the training, supplies, and market connections they need to restore their work and their dignity.

Each participant receives a complete kit, including beehive boxes, wax, separators, wasp traps, and protective gear, alongside practical training in hive management, bee health, sustainable production, and business skills.

The programme culminates in a Honey and Beekeeping Products Exhibition, a community event to connect producers with buyers, celebrate local products, and inspire the revival of an ancient craft. This is more than a livelihood, it’s a step towards resilience, food security, and hope for entire families in newly stabilised communities.
