Humanity Cup: Standing in Solidarity with Refugee Communities in Jordan

This Ramadan, Action For Humanity strengthened its presence in Jordan through a series of key deployments, including the Humanity Cup, an initiative that brought communities together and raised over £325,000 in support of refugee families.

The Humanity Cup was more than a football event. It was a moment of connection, solidarity, and shared humanity. Working alongside members of the Manchester United Muslim Supporters’ Club (MUMSC), our teams facilitated a unique deployment to Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan. Volunteers spent time with families, listening to their experiences, sharing iftar, and distributing Zakat directly to those in need.

Building Human Connection

During the visit, volunteers joined families for iftar, sat together in conversation, and took part in daily life within the camps. For many families, displacement is not temporary. It is a long-term reality shaped by limited access to resources, economic hardship, and ongoing uncertainty.

By spending time together, sharing meals, and listening, the Humanity Cup created space for meaningful connection, beyond headlines and statistics. Zakat was distributed directly to families, allowing them to prioritise their own needs and make decisions with dignity.

Football as a Bridge

Football played a central role in bringing people together. Friendly matches were held within the camps, alongside coaching sessions for children and orphans. These moments provided a sense of normality, routine, and enjoyment for young people growing up in difficult circumstances.

But the purpose went beyond sport. Football created a shared language — one that allowed volunteers and families to connect quickly and naturally, regardless of background. It offered moments of relief, while reinforcing a deeper message: communities facing displacement are not forgotten.

Supporting Orphans and Families

A key focus of the initiative was supporting orphaned children within the camps. Volunteers organised a dedicated iftar for orphans and spent time engaging with them through activities and coaching sessions. The aim was not only to provide immediate support, but to build pathways for longer-term assistance. This included ongoing fundraising efforts to help cover essential living costs such as food, education, and daily needs.

A Continued Commitment To Jordan

The Humanity Cup reflects our wider approach across the region: delivering practical support while maintaining dignity, strengthening communities, and building long-term resilience. Across Jordan, our teams continue to work with refugee communities, providing humanitarian assistance and supporting families facing ongoing displacement and hardship. While initiatives like the Humanity Cup create moments of connection, the need remains.

Standing Together

Humanitarian work is not only about delivering aid. It is about standing alongside communities, listening, and responding with consistency and care. The Humanity Cup demonstrated what is possible when people come together with a shared purpose, not only to give, but to connect.

With continued support, we can ensure that families living in displacement receive the assistance they need, both now and in the future.
