Action For Humanity is deeply saddened by the horrific attack on a Greek Orthodox church in Karak, southern Jordan, during a funeral on Friday.

Seven people were killed and dozens more injured in the attack.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the families of those who lost their lives, those who were injured, and the entire community affected by this tragedy.

Kholoud Taweeleh, Country Director for Action For Humanity, one of the leading NGOs operating in Jordan, said:

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by this horrific act of violence. To attack people gathered together to mourn, in a place of worship, is an appalling violation of the sanctity and safety that every community deserves.

“Our deepest condolences are with the families who have lost loved ones, and we wish all those injured a full and swift recovery. At this painful moment, we stand in solidarity with the people of Karak and with communities across Jordan.

“Jordan’s strength is found in the solidarity of its people and its tradition of coexistence. Violence and hatred must never be allowed to divide communities. Places of worship must remain places of safety, dignity and peace.”

Action For Humanity stands with the people of Jordan at this difficult time and condemns all acts of violence against civilians and places of worship.
