New polling conducted in early June 2025 reveals that a majority of Britons oppose Israel’s military campaign in Gaza (55%), with a large proportion of those opponents saying Israel’s actions amount to genocide.

At the same time, there is strong public backing for the UK to enforce the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he were to visit the UK, underscoring growing public pressure for legal accountability and a decisive government response.

The survey, commissioned by the NGO Action For Humanity in collaboration with the International Centre for Justice for Palestinians, was conducted by YouGov and shows the following:

• 55% of the public oppose Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, with only 15% supporting.

• Of those who polled as opposing the campaign, a striking 82% believe it amounts to genocide.

• This translates to 45% of the total population who view Israel’s actions as genocidal.

• Among Labour voters, the number is even higher: 59% believe genocide is taking place.

British public’s views on the enforcement of the ICC’s arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu:

• 65% of the public support the UK enforcing the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

• Among Labour voters, support rises to 78%.

• Just 5% of Labour voters oppose enforcement; a near-consensus in favour of upholding international law.

Strong Support for Palestinian Statehood:

• 30% of Britons support immediately recognising Palestine as an independent state, with only 10% opposing the initiative.

• Among Labour voters, 43% support immediate recognition, and just 2% oppose recognition altogether.

The public - and particularly Labour voters - are calling for a just political resolution rooted in recognition.

Humanitarian Response: Labour Voters Support Gaza Visa Scheme

• 56% of Labour voters support a humanitarian visa scheme for Gazans, modelled on “Homes for Ukraine”.

• More than double the amount of Labour voters in opposition (27%).

"Despite the misinformation to whitewash war crimes being committed in Gaza, the British public are not being fooled. It is clear that a majority of the public here are disgusted with Israel's conduct, and a growing number agree that this is clearly a genocide. The UK's failure to take a real stand against this is not just a moral abomination, but it is politically negligent too. Polling shows that most Labour voters demand meaningful action: recognition of Palestine, enforcement of international law, and a humanitarian response that matches the unprecedented suffering that we have witnessed for 20 months.

All but a dwindling few want the UK government to do everything in its power to stop Israel and seek justice against those responsible. This polling shows that the government's failure to recognise the scale of the crimes being inflicted upon Gaza is not just putting them on the wrong side of history, it's putting them on the wrong side of the present day.

“This poll shows what we already know: the UK Government is totally out of touch with the British public they are supposed to represent, and the Labour Party are even more out of touch with their own voters.

UK policymaking should be based on complying with international law obligations regardless, but this poll just goes to show the level of popular support for such policies too. There is absolutely no appetite to drag our national reputation through the mud by continuing to stand with a rogue, pariah state."

All figures, unless otherwise stated, are from YouGov Plc.  Total sample size was 2,010 adults. Fieldwork was undertaken between 4th - 5th June 2025.  The survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all UK adults (aged 18+).
