A Mother's Journey to Safety and Care in Yemen

For nine years, Ghada has lived in displacement. A young mother of four, she had already endured years of instability, limited access to healthcare, and the daily strain of survival. When she became pregnant with her fifth child, regular medical check-ups were not an option. Distance, cost, and harsh living conditions kept essential maternal care out of reach.

It was only through a neighbour’s guidance that Ghada learned about Al-Anad Health Centre, where treatment is provided free of charge through Action For Humanity’s Supporting Al-Anad Health Facility – Phase II project. This knowledge would soon prove lifesaving.

An Unexpected Emergency

When sudden pain began, Ghada rushed to Al-Anad Health Centre, believing she needed a routine examination. What she did not know was that she was already in labour. Even more astonishing, she was carrying twins, a reality she had never been informed of due to the lack of prenatal care.

The medical team, supported by Action For Humanity, acted immediately. With professionalism, urgency, and compassion, they prepared for delivery and ensured Ghada received the care she urgently needed.

Moments later, she safely delivered a baby boy and a baby girl.

Two New Lives, Born with Hope

Ghada named her twins Karam and Jood, names meaning generosity, chosen as an expression of gratitude for the care that saved their lives. For a mother who had faced years of hardship, their arrival marked not only a medical success but a moment of dignity, safety, and renewed hope.

The support did not end at delivery. The medical team continued to care for Ghada through postnatal check-ups, health awareness sessions, and family planning guidance, ensuring both mother and babies had the best possible start.

The Wider Crisis Facing Women in Yemen

Ghada’s story is one of hope, but it reflects a much larger humanitarian crisis. Across Yemen, more than 8 million women and girls urgently need access to reproductive healthcare. Every two hours, a mother loses her life due to preventable causes linked to pregnancy and childbirth.

Years of conflict and underfunding have left the healthcare system fragile, overstretched, and struggling to meet growing needs. Facilities like Al-Anad Health Centre are often the only lifeline for displaced and vulnerable families.

Standing With Mothers and Newborns

With the support of donors, Action For Humanity continues to strengthen maternal and reproductive healthcare services, ensuring safer deliveries and lifesaving treatment for women across Yemen. Yet the scale of need remains far greater than the resources available.

Every mother deserves safe care. Every child deserves a chance at life.

Together, we can help protect mothers, welcome newborns safely into the world, and save lives where the need is greatest.
