Water Gaza City

For families in Gaza City, the destruction of water infrastructure has turned an essential part of daily life into a struggle. Action For Humanity is working to restore access to water for displaced families and communities whose supplies have been disrupted.

Three years of Israeli bombardment and military operations have damaged or destroyed the infrastructure people depend on. Water networks have been disrupted, leaving families struggling to find enough water for drinking and everyday household needs.

For people living in temporary shelters or damaged homes, these shortages compound already unsafe conditions. Collecting water takes time and effort, while limited supplies make it harder to maintain hygiene and protect children from illness.

Restoring water infrastructure is an urgent humanitarian priority and absolutely essential to making communities liveable again.

Restoring Water Supplies in Gaza City

Action For Humanity is working to improve household water access through the construction of domestic wells and associated infrastructure.

The work prioritises displaced families and underserved communities facing significant barriers to reliable water supplies. By restoring local sources, the project aims to reduce the daily burden on households whose access has been disrupted by destruction and displacement.

Each domestic well is expected to serve approximately 1,000–1,400 people. Two wells have been completed, with further wells planned.

What Reliable Water Access Means for Families

When water is scarce, families face difficult decisions about how to use what they can collect. Preparing food, washing clothes and keeping children clean all depend on a supply that many households cannot take for granted.

Improved water access can help families maintain essential hygiene and reduce the risk of waterborne illness. A dependable local source can also ease the physical burden of collecting water, particularly for older people and people with disabilities. For displaced families, these improvements offer some stability amid prolonged uncertainty.

Building on Three Years of Humanitarian Response

Since October 2023, Action For Humanity has reached more than 1.3 million people across Palestine, including more than 555,000 people through water, sanitation and hygiene interventions.

Our Palestinian colleagues and local partners have continued delivering assistance despite insecurity and restrictions on humanitarian access. Many have experienced the same displacement and loss as the communities they support.

This latest work builds on that response, helping restore infrastructure that families need now and will depend on as their communities recover.
