Sudan on the Brink: Millions Trapped by War and Hunger
Across Sudan, families are trapped by war and hunger. They are running out of time.
The crisis has torn apart nearly thirteen million lives, forcing them to flee their homes since violence erupted in April 2023, turning what began as a power struggle into one of the world’s fastest-growing humanitarian crises. Entire cities have emptied. Families walk for days across scorched terrain with nothing but what they can carry.
The relentless civil war has left the people of Sudan in a perpetual state of flight, from Khartoum to Darfur, from South Kordofan to the borders of Chad and South Sudan. Homes, hospitals, and markets have been reduced to rubble. The scarcity of food and clean water has reached critical levels, and diseases are spreading rapidly in overcrowded camps.
Today, nearly 30 million people need humanitarian aid, and over 24 million are acutely food insecure. In some areas, famine has already begun. This is a crisis unfolding in real time, marked by silence and suffering.
What We’re Seeing on the Ground
Action For Humanity has been on the ground in Sudan since 2024, responding to escalating hunger and displacement in South Kordofan and Blue Nile States.
Our teams are working through local partners and community volunteers to reach families who have lost everything. In some of the hardest-hit areas, where access is dangerous and aid routes are blocked, our approach focuses on providing food to the hungry and building resilience.
Through our community and hospital kitchens, Action For Humanity is providing daily hot meals for more than 18,000 displaced people, including 700 children. Alongside this, we’re supporting nutrition and protection awareness sessions for caregivers and training local volunteers to manage kitchens safely and sustainably.
Voices from Sudan
“We’ve fled twice since the fighting began. My children ask when they’ll eat again, and I have no answer. The community kitchen here is saving our lives.”
Fatima, displaced mother, South Kordofan.
Fatima’s story echoes across Sudan. Families like hers are displaced repeatedly, surviving on whatever they can find. Each meal through our community kitchens offers a moment of relief and a reminder that the world has not forgotten them.
Donate today to help us keep the kitchens open and keep children fed through Sudan’s hunger crisis.
What Comes Next
The situation remains critical. As the conflict drags on, access to aid becomes increasingly difficult, and the cost of delivering food and medicine continues to rise. Humanitarian funding is running dangerously low.
Yet, amid these challenges, communities are showing extraordinary resilience. Local volunteers are leading the effort to feed their neighbours. They are the heartbeat of our response, proving that even in chaos, compassion endures.
Action For Humanity is ready to scale up our operations. To expand our kitchen networks, train more volunteers, and reach new displacement sites, we need your support.
