Rebuilding Critical Care in Northeast Syria
Raqqa in northeast Syria has endured years of conflict and destruction. Once already under-resourced, the city’s healthcare system was severely damaged during the war and the battle to defeat ISIS between 2014 and 2017.
Today, hospitals continue to operate with limited equipment, supplies, and trained staff, making it extremely difficult to treat critically ill patients.
At Raqqa National Hospital, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides life-saving treatment for patients suffering from severe infections, respiratory failure, trauma, and emergency medical conditions. However, the ICU urgently needs modern equipment and resources to meet the growing demand for care.
The Raqqa Medical Campaign aims to strengthen critical care services so doctors and nurses can provide the treatment patients urgently need.
Why Critical Care Support Is Urgent
Doctors in Raqqa’s ICU treat patients facing life-threatening conditions every day, including severe respiratory failure, pneumonia and infections, trauma and emergency surgical cases, and critical complications affecting children and adults.
Without adequate equipment and supplies, medical teams are forced to work with extremely limited resources. Strengthening the ICU will directly improve survival for critically ill patients.
Our Goal
We aim to raise £100,000 to strengthen the Intensive Care Unit at Raqqa National Hospital.
This funding will support mechanical ventilators, patient monitoring systems, oxygen therapy equipment, respiratory support devices, ICU consumables and infection prevention supplies, training for doctors and nurses, and maintenance and servicing of equipment.
The Impact
Your support will help save the lives of critically ill patients, provide life-saving respiratory support, strengthen the hospital’s emergency response capacity, and support frontline healthcare workers delivering care under extremely difficult conditions.
A single ventilator can support hundreds of patients over its lifetime.
